Molly of Richmond

So the last few days were really fun, let's see...I ate a pasty, went to St.Paul's , watched the changing of the guard and.... hahaha actually I cannot overstate how much fun it was to visit The Attic and see our blog compatriots. Rachel Fuller is so lovely and every inch a star, plus a classicaly trained prodigy, a chanteuse, an irreverant wit, a loving pet owner, a true gal pal etc it seems as if there is nothing she can't do! Those legs, that voice! It will be fun to write a longer article about her, especially after a trip to Southend.

Pete Townshend looks like he could play major league baseball or water polo if he ever gets tired of saving rock n roll. In fact Pete and Rachel remind me that one couple in your high school that everyone liked and wanted to be together forever. Pete is a very nice man who happens to be a superstar.
Tracie is the sweetest PA and has that inimitable British spirit that makes the people in this country so much fun, she and Justin Kreutzmann will be unbeatable as a team on the road.
Mikey is totally cool and gracious and he's a great fine artist-everyone in The Attic is so wonderfully multi talented! Would have liked to have met the tech crew but they were busy working.
Spenny from Back Bone Shiver was quiet but once I broke the ice was very sweet, talking about his guitar lessons that he gives to kids in Manchester and how tough it is to get a band together (don't I know).
The attic itself is in such a lovely part of England/South London. It was like being in a Dickens sketch with a bit of Beatrix Potter and more than a large dose of Wind in The Willows thrown in.
And who is "Molly of Richmond?" well at my BnB here near Kew Gardens the ownner has a lovely cocker spaniel with a recently shorne rone coat(spotted gret blaqck and off white) and a very amazing ability to slip in through my door and eat my McVites biscuits. Truly amazing because she can close the door behind her!!! She is just wonderful and she looks very much like the late Towser. (The BnB owner also mentioned that her husband has run into Pete at the local dog park. He is so deservedly loved in his hood.) Now that my tech friends are either in Poland or France i have no way to post photos of Molly but i promise a few good ones of Kew and Molly. In the meantime i slowly recover from my bizzare sleep schedule and wish everyone well. When I return to the states I promise to write all of you who have kindly posted during this magical trip.

Hi Amanda, nice to hear that you had a good time in London and especially ITA. You were great on ITA, another natural like Claire Eliza. Tony Benn is a great man and a man of the people, even though he is very wealthy. Anyway, take care and have fun, Mark

What a nice post this is.
I look forward to hearing from you upon your return!

Now, I must get back to real life. We are hosting a little party for my 14 year old tonight! Ah, the stuff that dreams are made of; a basement party full of 14 year olds...UGGH, S.O.S

I read once that Eddie Vedder had no small amount of trepidation regarding his first meeting with PT. I believe he may have said something like, "You should never meet your heroes . . ." I've seen a photo of them together, so he must've got over it.

But after seeing Rach and PT in the Attic, etc., in such a spontaneous setting, it seems like I've already met them. Still, I am so happy for you having the dream fantasy visit to London. Bless you and have a safe return.

Thank you for your generous postings here, because I did (I kick myself) miss you ITA. I think I said so before, but these highlights from your trip make up somehow for my unfortunate miss-out or mishap (actually, I had no choice). You're such a good writer. I hear Rachel needs some PR...! You!!! I want you!!

I'm so happy for you. I'm especially happy to be able to tell you that I'm happy for you. So glad for TBWHM.

Hi Amanda,
What a lovely post to recap your last few days. I'm delighted that you've enjoyed your trip and had these great opportunities to meet such wonderful people. Your open, warm spirit came through on the portions of ITA that saw (the feed has not been very good the last two weeks, and so the visuals and dialogue are both erratic) and you really are a natural.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip and wish you a safe flight home. Can't wait to see the pics once you're back settled in.

Cheers,
AM

Take Care!

Hey Amanda~ First time I'm posting here, though I feel as if I know you, we've been bloggers a long time at Rachel's.
I HAD to write and tell you how excited I was for you being in the Attic. You were a riot, not to mention poised and gorgeous. I imagine the whole gang must make you feel very much at home (that's the impression I always get). I feel so close to everyone that if I ever AM lucky enough to meet them, I don't think I'd lose my ability to speak like I did when I met Roger Daltrey back in 1979....
Anyway, congratulations again on what sounds like a fantastic trip!

Best Regards, Darlin'
Sincerely~
Elizabeth A.

Thank you for the lovely essays and photos of your English trip, so far. It allows for us readers to enjoy, vicariously living through your experiences.I apologize for just commenting on your blog now, even though I've lurked a few times: I've only had a computer for a year, so I'm not too computer savvy. TBWHM blog introduced me to the world of blogging. Much peace.

Hi Amanda-
I'm so glad you have raised our awareness of Paul Robeson.
I went on to Rhapsody tonight and finally gave "Deep River" a listen.
It brought tears to my eyes - and a feeling I simply cannot explain.
I thought it was Robeson who made "ol' Man River" famous...Rufus Wainwright said if there was one song he wished he had written, it was that song.
I did a little research on Robeson (I know I have to read YOUR stuff on him) and I loved that he changed the words to better reflect the African American experience of the time...I really want to read more about him.
This quote is really potent:
"To be free -to walk the good American earth as equal citizens, to live without fear, to enjoy the fruits of our toil to give our children every opportunity in life - that dream which we have held so long in our hearts is today the destiny that we hold in our hands."
wow.

Getting to meet Tony Benn, eh? I'm impressed. My brother interviewed him about 15 years ago for his University magazine.

I'm also glad you're enjoying your visit so much. I told my american friends about pasties and they all thought they sounded revolting. I suppose you've also tried Spotted Dick as well? If not, you must; it's my favourite pudding.

So nice of you to include another memorable shot of you enjoying your time in London town. I am hopeful the lag on the jet isn't still bumbling around. I've heard you need to wear shades on the plane to avoid some of the effects.

I am so happy to be going to Barcelona (to the Who concert there, July 26!!!), but I am oddly grateful I lose a day (meaning, nighty-night on the flight). ZZZzzzzz.

Remember: Rachel needs good PR and you're the one! I just know it! Yes! I've made some accurate predications.

Hmm.

Our best to you and yours,
-gina+beabea

PS: thank you for the glowing return hello!

Hullo Amanda!

Sorry I've not been to your blog during your English adventures. Now what with less to do than expected work-wise I'm stepping up on it. Reading your diaries now, belatedly, it's obvious that you sure have seen a lot and then some. Not your usual tourist sights, great job! Bizarre sleeping schedule? Who needs sleep when in London :)
