I Miss My Cat Boris

It was about this time last year that my 18 year old cat Boris Kirby Badenov started showing signs of decline. So many wonderful memories of an animal life lived with gusto and dignity (even when he sprayed my bookcase once in awhile out of spite)he left me on February 8th 2005 , the last day of the Chinese Year of the Monkey. He's somewhere now doing great things. To all with pets, give them an extra cuddle for me.

Long live Boris the cat!

We also had a cat, Mies, that lived about 18 years. My children miss her terribly.

Sometimes I admit that I do, too.

I used to have a cat named Snake. He was the runt of the litter, yet he was the friendliest cat ever, and smart, too -- he played fetch and brought home many, many rats. We'd go for evening walks, and Snake would follow along. He LOVED other cats, and since I lived in a little apartment next to a lot of people with a lot of cats, he was quite happy.

When Snake turned one, I bought a house and we moved out to the woods. There were lots of ferile cats out there, and Snake wasn't as happy as he used to be -- about once a month he'd come home with "retreating wounds," or abcesses on his back legs and hind end. The other cats would chase him up a tree and bite.

Then, a few months later, he disappeared. Probably a Coyote. I miss him.

I still miss my cat even though he died years and years ago. His name was Carrot and he was a bit on the dumb side but I always remember how he used to wait for me and run towards me, meowing and holding his tail up, when I came back from school.

Another thing - sorry if it's inappropriate under this blog entry - I loved your comment "Oh, and regarding 'decent breasts...'" and then your pic. Fell of me chair laughing :)

Saw your comments on Pete's blog. Thought I'd drop in. Thats three days after my birthday... I'll try to give my bird a cuddle, but he will likely bite off my ear! Keep on truckin'!

Well, forget about the Ho chi Minh thing for now. I am not wanting to be a blog debater.

I see you have cats, on your blog. We have two of those rascals. Misty is an old, old grey cat. She is the sweetest. Odie is a big stocky black Tom. He is very young. They are...our cats. They are both "inherited" from somewhere.

So sad to hear of your Boris cat. He will be missed, I am sure.

Bullwinkle will never know what a friend he could have had, huh?

Really, though...I feel for the loss of the old guy, Boris. Such a neat name, too.

Hi Amanda,

Everyone who's been loved by cats or dogs understands the bond between humans and beasties. I've had so many cats (and two dogs), and miss every one I've lost. I'm sure they and Boris are all running around somewhere having a great time.
18 years is a great, long life. Lucky Boris, and lucky you.

Cheers,
Anne-Marie

Something similar to your brother...

My Dad was a Lt. Commander J.G., U.S. Navy, veteran of WWII and Korea, ended service in the Reserve about 1962.

Once stationed in San Diego...many, many years ago.

I never had to live the military "brat" life, since we were pretty much settled in by the time I came along.

We love San Diego. I never lived there, but many stories to tell.

Are you anywhere near Santa Cruz? We were there in the Spring...Big Basin Redwoods.
