Sarte goes Nashville: Wichita Lineman

Is that a pretentious title or what??!!! Is there anything more
existential than dreaming of one's destiny through an imagined person somewhere out on the telephone lines?

My most favourite song to sing right now, over and over and over till I get it
just right and it's a tough as nails. It's a deceptively simple sounding
song but I'm having a VERY tough time getting it--I want it to be
PERFECT!!

A really great, relaxed and flowing feeling in this song. Good luck in getting it down and practised!

Amanda/Superamanda:

Thank you, again, for visiting my simple but important (to certain folks) blog.

I will certainly watch the video that you have posted...since I have now just discovered it as I visit your blog...

...and maybe give feedback, when I can...

Be well,

Peace,

Great song, I actually have heard it a couple of times, switching the stations on the radio. Good one, good luck.

Hi Amanda!

Just came to say that message in the post with Piera's video was indeed really sweet! :-)

I know, we Pete and Rachel fans have it really good :)
As much as I love the other bands it's just would not be the same otherwise!

Hi Amanda, I admit it. I love Jimmy Webb songs, I even like Glenn Campbell singing them. You're right, this one is decievingly difficult to sing.

I heard a story once about Michael Stipe from R.E.M, apparently he got on stage at Kareoke night in the hotel they were staying in, and did a bunch of Jimmy Webb songs, this being one of them.

Hey, you got a nice post from Mr. Pete Townshend on your blog.

I was staying away from this song on the grounds that brings up bad memories, but it really is a great song. That's the thing, it really is a great song, I love the fact that you chose it.
It's like this song "Honey, I miss you." I think it's Glen Campbell..
Used to make my mother cry if she was in the right mood. Wichita Lineman makes my ex's mother cry to this day.
God, story songs are great! :)

"Wichita Lineman" is so hard to learn but I'm getting better, on Monday i'm singing it for at least three hours straight!

Glen actually makes a mistake in the video I have posted but makes it work AND he's playing an electric 12 string at the same time!!

On youtube there is a Sergio Mendes bossa nova version, Stone Temple Pilots and even an 80's Hall and Oates style synth keyboard cover by a guy named Markos that actually grows on you!

Ok.....there was a time when my closest relative said that I was a version of her on "acid"....well, sweet Amanda, sometimes I think you are ME on Crack Cocaine...ha ha!!! You pull this stuff from my mind....and the Wichita Lineman is still on the line.....very hard to reach those high notes....Good Luck and God Speed with that......xo

Poor Glen, he's brilliant. But he's sooo not known for this right now. All I see of him these days are mug shots from more recent DUI's. :(
And yet he could play that 12 string at one time like it was nothing- wow! Hope he is getting his life together and still playing.
And you, keep at it, btw! I understand about the frustration of perfectionism. Don't let it keep you from putting something up. This is my problem. No new videos yet due to my quest for perfection!I am my worst critic.
But you have a lot more people waiting for your videos than I do, too ;)
Practice makes perfect, though, so you are right about that, too.:)

Jimmy Webb kicks major butt!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this song.
I bet it is a difficult song to sing.

I used to watch the Glen Cambell Show every week with my parents.

Thanks for sharing this Amanda.

Take care,
Love,
Suexx
