HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! Louse of Usher and The fall (temporarily) of joy
From the wonderful The Fall of The Louse of Usher, James Johnston and Lizi Tribble sing "Ligeia" their rock video depicting when Roderick Usher was the Mick Jagger of his era and he was number one with a bullet. The senseless killing of 49 very rare and endangered captive Tigers, Mountain Lions, African Lions, Lionesses, Monkeys, Bears and wolf in Zanesville, Ohio two weeks ago has created a great deal of sadness. In my spare time reserved for this project, I drifted into reading dark, freaky books about the Rolling Stones and googling articles about their various wildness years, erotica and misadventures and I did have some great fun listening to the songs of "Goats Head Soup" and rare outtakes.
I'll say this for Ken Russell, joyfulness and levity is in everything he does even if it is dark. I look towards the next two days for ritual purification to counteract my feelings of glum and then climbing back to the clouds in silver boots to be with stars who twinkle with Russellvision..

´Louse of Usher´ & ´Ligeia ´ ...Good ole Edgar , bless his sinful soul! / As for Stones ..Well, Jogger/Jagger is a mellow musician & an extremely bright bloke. But he sure has his dark sides ...Da abyss of Altamont. What a nightmarish mess. And as for Mick´s & Keith´s behavior towards young female fans ( & towards da wives of friends )sure makes for glum reading, aye./As for Mick´s & Keith´s attitude towards Brian Jones, prior to da latter´s death, it was low beyond belief.Even for dem !Naw, I sure wouldn´t wanna be Mick´s friend !
Hi Par, which books have you read? I think all the Stones are due for some revisiting if you feel that way. I know how it they appear all mean and cruel but as all of their kids have so far ended up very together that speaks for a lot. Also many forget that were famous at 19 and 20 ish which is REALLY young. Altamont all went wrong because the Stones and The Dead became too imperious and oblivious to the times. If you were young and hip I can't see how that could not have occurred. If it had been me in their shoes I would have made the same mistake because I still intrinsically believe that all people can get along.
As for Brian Jones, he was really driven, talented and an unsung forerunner of World music but he was terribly abusive to women as well as to his friends. He'd often beat girls senseless till they were bleeding. I'd have kicked him out of the band too. In regards to his death Keith always felt it was foul play (as I do) and Jagger is correct when he said no one really knew about addiction and getting help for addicts back then. The Stones were path finders who culturally took a lot of unfair mud slings simply for surviving and apologetically being into sex, drugs and rock n roll.
Ye gotta be kiddin , Amanda ! Findin excuses for Altamont .. BOOO ! / Still maintainin Jogger/Jagger is a perfect slime ball. Just can´t stand da sight of him , sry !/ I do NOT care if he´s yer idol . He´s a FREAK !
No you misread me. Ken Russell is my only idol. There are ZERO excuses for Altamont. It was a very awful and 100% preventable occurrence. A Bay Area baby boomer friend of mine once told me that the Grateful Dead ultimately took the blame for lauding the Hells Angels but then Kesey and Ginsberg were dropping acid with them too. Hippie people stupidly believed that a bunch of KKK/Hitler types could be civilised. There were also reputedly only 13 police officers at the entire show! 1 cop per 30,000! My point is not to excuse it only that there had never been a precedent for that kind of event. Woodstock does not count because it was so well planned out. The Stones were going to Golden Gate and then the City of SF cancelled on them at the last minute, then it was going to be Sear's Point but THEY wanted a shitload of money and rights to the film... The Stones were too simply to imperious to know when to stop. Someone was trying to tell them something.
i too like to think all people can get along, in a perfect world.
I always remember what Anne Frank wrote: "Despite everything, I believe that people are really good at heart."
But, its a wish, its a dream.
I get along with everyone, i do my best in this world to be peaceful, and be positive. I dont like waves, or drama, I look for the good. My Mom and Dad always did, so guess it rubbed off.
Tough to be that famous at a young age, too young to be "aware". agreed.
ps your last post Amanda just popped up, (slow ISP this evening). Well put.
Just curious, where does Pete rank in your Idols? As I had the impression, Pete was, your idol. ??
*too imperious*
Hi Grace, Well I'm a huge fan of Pete and The Who of course! as far as an idol an icon or someone who I have an almost religious following for, it would be Ken and his work. And of course the Who are a well lit and clean lighted part of Ken's art.
Ok, Amanda ... Re. responsibility for HA bein hired as ´security ´ at Altamont , I´ve heard quite a different story: Mick & Keith were strugglin hard to hire dem. Ye know , ´bike ridin freedom fighters ´... ha ha ha. We all know da outcome !/ So I shan´t comment any Stones blog posts here in da future . Tis a promise . Enuff of Muck Jogger/Yuck Monger & Thief Switcher BASTA !//
P.S. HA ´capo di capi ´, Sonny Barger ( from fucken Oakland ) was in Sweden last yer . He was treated like a Great Statesman by Swede press . YUUUCK !
I've just finished reading my fifth VERIFIABLE Stones book and many out there are embellished or incorrect as ghost writers were used. plus I talked to people who were not only there but grew up in the Bay Area and were there for the after effects. The British Hells Angels had been security at the Hyde Park Concert for Brian Jones and there had been ZERO problems so in some ways there naivete was not misbegotten. Rock Scully and Jerry of the Grateful Dead recommended them wholeheartedly having had a very close association with them (wow, how peace and love and tire die....) , that is not debatable it may be why there are and were almost no Black Grateful Dead fans. So you see, British Hells Angels were simply not even remotely on par with the US HA who showed up at the concert with tons of weapons, guns and bullied and harassed the crowd all day.
"He was treated like a Great Statesman by Swede press ." DISGUSTING. I know it is just awful that people who are connected to crime and lionized simply for a motorcycle.
Did you watch the beautiful video? :)
ah, I am clear now. thnx.
re. imbedded vid : Aye, a bit decadent. But so is life itself. A bit decadent , I mean : ´Woman gives birth , straddling an open grave ... ´ ( James Joyce . )
